A second Subway copycat recipe? You betcha! And the bun of choice for this meatball sub is the one and only copycat Italian herb & cheese (find the recipe here).
This time I aimed to replicate the deliciousness of Subway’s meatball sub. Our oldest son—who is somewhat of a meatball sub connoisseur around our house—gives this copycat recipe a 5-out-of-5.
So, let’s get the [meat]ball rolling on this recipe!
Sorry, that was terrible but I couldn’t help myself. Alright, here it is..
*COPYCAT SUBWAY MEATBALL SUB*
INGREDIENTS:
- 1 bag FarmRich Homestyle Meatballs (you’ll want to prepare about 4-5 meatballs per sub)
- 1 bottle of your favorite pasta or pizza sauce (We like Ragu or Contadina)
- Provolone & Mozzarella shredded cheese (freshly shredded or pre-packaged)
- Copycat Italian Herb & Cheese sub buns (I have a great recipe here.)

DIRECTIONS:
1. Bake meatballs according to directions on bag.
2. Heat sauce in large sauce pan while meatballs cook.
3. Add meatballs to sauce and stir until well coated.
4. Open the toasted Italian Herb & Cheese buns and place 4-5 meatballs in a row on each bun. If desired, top with extra sauce. Sprinkle 1/4 cup of shredded cheese on top of the meatballs and fold top of bun back down. I recommend cutting the sub in half for easier handling.
5. Serve and enjoy!
There you have it! These subs are always a hit in our house!
TIP: If you prefer a traditional Italian sub bun, I simply brush the top of the buns with melted butter and broil for 4-6 minutes, depending on your oven. Watch the buns to make sure they don’t burn.
I hope your family enjoys this quick, easy recipe as much as mine does.
Until next time, friends!
