We recently visited a beautiful, local apple orchard. If you’ve never been apple picking, I highly suggest doing so! Not only is the experience wonderful, but you also get to go home with a variety of delicious apples and, undoubtedly, some pretty fantastic memories.
I gave both of our boys a reusable bag and we set out into the orchard. With very little experience, I feel like we picked some great beauties — nearly 25 lbs. of gorgeous apples, to be exact.

Now, I know what you’re thinking, because I had the same thought.
“What on earth are you going to do with 25 lbs. of apples?!”
Look, I’ll be honest..
I have no idea.
I am, however, figuring it out pretty quickly. I’ve already got an amazing banana muffin recipe on hand, so swapping out the bananas for 2-3 grated apples is definitely on the list. I might also try my hand at apple butter, apple cider, of course apple pie…
There’s no shortage of fantastic apple recipes out there. And now I have another to add to the book.. which is less of an actual book and more of the notes app on my phone.
My husband and I love all things apple and cinnamon so I had no doubts about trying these cookies. I was very surprised, however, to hear our boys raving about how yummy they are! I believe their exact words were, “Bruh, these cookies are so good!” But even at 13 and 9 they’re still my little guys so yeah, I heard “yummy.”
With the perfect blend of tart apple and sweet cinnamon, your home will smell like Fall and the flavor is sure to please even the pickiest of palates.
So, let’s jump in!

APPLE CINNAMON COOKIES
Ingredients
- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour regular or gluten-free measure-for-measure flour blend
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 1¼ teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup (1 stick) salted butter, softened (or 1 crisco stick)
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- ¼ cup light brown sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3/4 cup apple—peeled, cored, and grated (or finely chopped)
Cinnamon Sugar for rolling the cookie dough
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, cream of tartar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, using a hand mixer or stand mixer, cream together the butter, white sugar, and brown sugar. Mix in the egg, vanilla, and grated apple.
- Add the flour mixture into the wet ingredients and beat until dough has formed. Set aside.
- In a small bowl, mix the cinnamon & sugar together for rolling the dough balls.
- Scoop a tablespoon sized ball of cookie dough, roll it in the cinnamon sugar mixture and place the cookies 2 inches apart on the prepared cookie sheet.
- Bake for 10 minutes or until the edges are crisp and the top no longer looks wet. Note: the cookies might look big and puffy when done baking but they will flatten as they cool.
- Immediately transfer parchment paper with cookies to a cool surface, such as a wire rack, to cool completely.
- Store in an air tight container at room temperature.
The original Apple Cookie recipe from Boulder Locavore® is tasty. I made just a few, minor changes in my recipe and my entire family approves! Yes, even my uber picky 9 year old. He’s already asking if I can make a larger batch next time!
Get ready to fall in love with these scrumptious cookies — notice what I did there? Lol. They’re perfect on their own or try a couple with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a special dessert!
And don’t forget, if you try them for yourself, come on back and let me know what you think!
